In this issue, we will share with you a letter from Donggang Elementary School in Wukou Township, Pingjiang County, Yueyang Municipality, Hunan Province, in response to the generous gifts of a new library and new desks from our friends at the Pets forum on mitbbs.com and the Middle Age forum on wenxuecity.com.

Dear OCEF Volunteers:

On behalf of all students and teachers at Donggang Elementary School in Wukou Township, Pingjiang County, Yueyang Municipality, Hunan Province, we are writing to express our sincere gratitude for your donation of 300 classroom desk sets (valued at CNY¥39,600), one shared desk set for the teachers, and 400 books, which have been received and put into use. We are extremely grateful for your generosity.

Ours is a rural school located in a remote, mountainous area, with 268 students currently enrolled and a 12-member faculty. Due to the lack of funding, our school had had to cope with makeshift equipment, with dilapidated desks of different sizes in the classrooms and an abandoned ping-pong table for a desk in the teachers' office. Your timely donation provided the most needed help and improved our facilities tremendously. Our teachers and students are elated and deeply obliged. In return, we can only vow to reward your kindness with redoubled efforts and, hopefully, amplified accomplishments in education.

The books you donated have brought us holiday cheers and are leading us to a whole new world of knowledge and experience. With their help, the sons and daughters of the mountains are now getting to know the world beyond their immediate horizon, in terms of both time and space. Your gifts have brightened their eyes, and for that we cannot thank you enough. "To live, to love, and to give!" The virtue of your generosity has sowed a seed in the collective heart of our students and teachers, and we will strive to spread that virtue far and wide in the society. Once again, thank you for all your support, past and future!
