"Education in rural China: tales of perseverance and love" Photo Exhibition

世界很大，大到我们完全不知道那片生养过我们的土地上发生着什么；大到我们轻易地就会忘记这个世界上还有那么多不一样的人和事。

世界很小，小到一张图片就能把我们拉回到地球的那一边；小到一段简单的文字就能让我们的心脏和不相识的孩子一起跳动。

本次图片展主题为“求学路，助学行”，将展出数百张海外中国教育基金会国内义工在走访贫困地区时获得的一手资料，全方位地反映了中国落后地区贫困学生的生活和求学状况，以及基金会介入后在大家共同努力下所发生的变化。基金会资助的学生分布于中国大陆边远乡村, 他们中的大部分或是来自单亲家庭、或是父母双亡的孤儿、或是父母家人因病痛残疾以至家庭负债累累。然而这些孩子即使在生活的艰辛中, 仍然相信知识是改变他们命运的阶梯, 未曾放弃对知识的追求对学习的渴望。

懂得关爱他人能使孩子健康地成长，明白承担责任则是成熟的开始。我们诚挚地邀请您和您的家人来参观我们的图片展。让我们的图片和故事把这个世界缩小到您的眼前，让那些“我要读书”的呼喊在您耳边响起，让你想起那些并不遥远的过去和并不陌生的现实。这样的呼喊和回忆能让我们再一次感激生活的恩赐，并愿意把这份感激与地球那一边陌生却又熟悉的孩子分享。

In the hinterland of China, millions of children live in poverty. While we take education for granted, these children have to pursue it with the utmost perseverance. They hike miles in the mountains every day to attend school. They take lessons standing in schools without enough chairs. To save school supplies, they use sticks as pencils and earth as paper to practice writing and arithmetic.

For these children, a little help goes a long way. We are happy to report that we were able to help a record number of children last year. More than two thousand children have received sponsorship from OCEF in 2005, and even more have benefited from donated books; high school scholarships carried dozens of students to the door of college; and new schoolhouses are sheltering students and teachers alike.

Pictures in this Photo Exhibition do not hide the hardship that many rural children face. But in the hardship lies perseverance, which, together with love from you and us, leads to hope for a brighter future.
